Certified Translation Service

Offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui  |  Accepted by Thai Government Offices and Embassies  |  Same-Day Service Available

Whether you are dealing with a visa application, a marriage registration, a court submission, or any other official process, a certified translation is often one of the first things you will be asked to provide. We have been handling certified translations for individuals and businesses in Thailand since 2012, and we understand what each institution needs to accept your documents without complications.

Our offices are in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui. You can visit us, send documents by post, or simply send us clear photos or scans via WhatsApp, Line, or email. We work with you in whatever way is most convenient.

What is a Certified Translation?

A certified translation is a translated document that includes a formal statement confirming the translation is accurate and complete. This statement is stamped and signed by a qualified translator or the Managing Director of a registered translation company, giving it legal standing for submission to official bodies.

At Modus Language Services, every certified translation we produce includes the following:

  • A “Certified Correct Translation” stamp on the translated document.
  • The signature of the translator.
  • The company name on the stamp, confirming the translation was completed by a registered translation company.
  • A Translator’s Statement or Letter of Accuracy, issued separately or printed on the same page as the translation if required. Some embassies, including the Australian Embassy, specifically request this format.
  • A copy of our ISO certificate attached to the translation, for businesses or institutions that require this for their records.
  • A company seal, if specifically requested, though most institutions do not require this.

Every institution has slightly different requirements. If you tell us where you are submitting your documents, we will make sure the certification is prepared in exactly the right format.

When is a Certified Translation Required?

Certified translations come up in many different situations. Some of the most common ones we deal with every week include:

  • Visa applications and extensions of stay in Thailand
  • Marriage and divorce registration at Thai district offices
  • Document submissions to foreign embassies in Thailand
  • Work permit applications
  • Using Thai-issued documents in another country
  • University enrollment applications abroad
  • Citizenship and permanent residency applications overseas
  • Court proceedings in Thailand or overseas
  • Company registration and business filings
  • Insurance claims involving foreign-language documents

If you are not sure whether you need a certified translation or something more, such as MFA Legalization or notarization, just contact us and we will point you in the right direction.

Languages

The large majority of certified translation requests we handle in Thailand involve Thai to English or English to Thai. These are the two languages accepted by the Thai MFA and most embassies operating in Thailand, so they cover most official document needs.

We also provide certified translations for a range of other languages. If you need a document translated from or into Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic or any other language, please contact us with the details and we will confirm availability and provide a quote.

Pricing and Turnaround

Thai to English or English to Thai: Starting from 600 THB per page for standard documents. The final price depends on the document type, length, and complexity. We will always confirm the price before starting any work.

Other language pairs are priced depending on the language combination and the nature of the document. Please contact us for a quote.

Turnaround: For single-page standard documents, next day service is available in most cases. For multiple documents or longer texts, we usually deliver within 2 to 3 working days. Tell us your deadline when you contact us and we will let you know what is possible.

Delivery: A printed hard copy with original stamps and signatures can be collected from any of our offices or request delivery by post or courier. We can also send scanned copies to you.

Do You Also Need MFA Legalization?

A certified translation is enough for many purposes. However, some situations require an additional step where the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs adds an official stamp to your documents. This is called MFA Legalization.

Common situations where MFA Legalization is needed:

  • Registering a marriage at a Thai district office using foreign documents
  • Submitting Thai documents to a foreign government or overseas embassy
  • Applying for residency or citizenship abroad using Thai-issued documents
  • Submitting foreign documents to Thai courts or government bodies

Two things to know before going to the MFA:

First, the MFA only processes documents that are in Thai or English. If your document is in another language, it must be certified into Thai or English first. We take care of this translation step as part of the overall service.

Second, the original document must have been issued by a Thai authority, or if it was issued in another country, it must carry either the stamp of that country’s embassy in Thailand, or the stamp of the Thai embassy in that country. We will let you know if this applies to your documents when you contact us.

What you need:

  • The original document
  • A certified Thai or English translation (we provide this)
  • A signed copy of your ID or Passport
  • A copy of your most recent visa or entry stamp, which must be valid on the day of the MFA appointment
  • A signed Power of Attorney form, which we provide so that our team can attend the MFA on your behalf

Timeline: Certified translation takes 1 to 2 working days. MFA Legalization typically takes 5 to 10 working days, depending on the current appointment schedule.

Cost: Certified translation starts from 600 THB per page. The MFA legalization service fee is 2500-3000 THB, plus a government fee per document. You will receive a full breakdown before any work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my original documents to your office?

Not for most certified translations. A clear photo or scan sent via WhatsApp, Line, or email is enough to get started. You only need to provide the original document if you are also requesting MFA Legalization, as the MFA requires the original to be present at submission.

Can you do it the same day?

Yes, for single-page standard documents in most cases. Contact us early in the day and let us know your deadline. We will confirm whether same-day delivery is possible for your specific document.

Do you provide a physical copy with an original stamp?

Yes. We can send a digital copy by email or chat. A printed hard copy with an original stamp and signature is available for collection from any of our offices or can be posted to you.

Is your certification accepted by the Australian Embassy?

Yes. The Australian Embassy has specific requirements around the format of the Translator’s Statement. We are familiar with these requirements and prepare the certification accordingly, with the statement printed on the same page as the translation.

What is the difference between certified, notarized, and legalized translations?

A certified translation carries the stamp and signature of a registered translation company. A notarized translation is a certified translation that has additionally been verified by a licensed lawyer. A legalized translation is one that has been through MFA Legalization at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Some institutions require one, some require two, and some require all three. We can help with each step and will advise you on what your specific situation requires.

Can you attach your ISO certificate to the translation?

Yes. For businesses or institutions that require a copy of our ISO certificate to be attached to the certified translation, we are happy to provide this on request.

Do you work with companies as well as individuals?

Yes. We regularly assist businesses with certified translations of company registration documents, contracts, financial documents, and other business materials. We can also provide ongoing translation support for companies that need translations on a regular basis.
