Offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui | Accepted by Thai Government Offices and Embassies | Express Service Available
You would usually need Ministry of Foreign Affairs Legalization when you are planning to use your official Thai documents abroad, or using documents issues abroad in Thailand. We handle the entire process for you, from preparing your certified translation to submitting your documents at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and collecting them on your behalf.
We have been providing certified translation and MFA legalization services in Thailand since 2012. Our team has completed thousands of MFA submissions across our offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui. Our translations are registered with the Department of Business Development and are accepted by Thai government offices, courts, and embassies throughout Thailand.
What is MFA Legalization?
MFA Legalization is the process of having your documents officially verified and stamped by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Department of Consular Affairs). This stamp confirms that the document is genuine and can be used for legal, immigration, marriage registration, or embassy purposes.
There are two common situations where this applies:
Thai documents intended for use abroad. For example, a Thai birth certificate or marriage certificate that you need to submit to a foreign government or embassy overseas.
Foreign documents intended for use in Thailand. For example, a foreign-issued birth certificate or marriage certificate that you need to register at a Thai district office or submit to a Thai government body.
In most cases, a certified translation is required before the MFA will accept the documents. We take care of both the translation and the submission as part of our service.
When Do You Need MFA Legalization?
You may need MFA Legalization for a wide range of situations, including:
- Registering a marriage or divorce at a Thai district office
- Submitting documents to a foreign embassy in Thailand
- Using Thai-issued documents in another country
- Applying for citizenship or permanent residency abroad
- Enrolling in a foreign university
- Obtaining a work permit or professional license overseas
- Legal proceedings in a foreign country
Not sure if your documents need MFA Legalization? Contact us and we will review your situation and advise you on exactly what is required.
Our MFA Legalization Service
We manage the full process on your behalf, so you do not need to take time off work or navigate government office queues on your own. Here is what we do:
Certified Translation. We translate your documents accurately and stamp them with our “Certified Correct Translation” seal and signature. We are a registered translation company with the Department of Business Development and our translations meet the standards required by the MFA and embassies.
Document Review. We review your documents before submission to ensure everything is in order. If your foreign-issued document needs to be authenticated by your embassy in Thailand first, we will advise you on this step and assist where possible.
Power of Attorney. We provide you with a Power of Attorney form to sign. This authorises Modus Language Services Co., Ltd. to submit and collect documents at the MFA on your behalf. You do not need to be present.
MFA Appointment and Submission. We check the available appointment dates, confirm with you, and handle the submission. Our team attends the MFA office and submits all required documents.
Collection and Delivery. We collect your legalized documents once they are ready. If the MFA requests any corrections on collection day, our team makes the updates and gets the corrected translation certified on the same day (some MFA offices might ask us to go back to collect the next day). We then notify you and arrange for pickup at one of our offices or delivery to your address.
What You Need to Prepare
We can help you with this, and can make copies of the required documents at our office for you.
- The original document (required for MFA submission)
- A signed copy of your ID or Passport
- A copy of your most recent entry stamp or visa page (for non-Thai nationals)
- Your entry stamp or visa must be valid on the day of the MFA appointment
If you are applying with a partner, such as for marriage registration, we will also need:
- A copy of your partner’s ID or Passport
- A copy of your partner’s most recent entry stamp or visa page
- Your partner’s entry stamp must also be valid on the day of the MFA appointment
If your document was not issued by a Thai authority, it may need to be authenticated by your home embassy in Thailand before the MFA will accept it. We will let you know if this applies to your case.
Timeline
Translation: 1 to 2 working days, depending on the number of documents. Same-day translation is available for single-page documents. Please let us know your deadline and we will do our best to accommodate.
MFA Certification: 5 to 10 working days from the submission date, depending on current MFA appointment availability. We always check the next available slot and confirm with you before proceeding.
Collection: We collect your documents within 2 to 3 working days after the submission date. If corrections are needed at the time of collection, we handle them on the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a certified translation and MFA legalization?
A certified translation is a translation that has been stamped and signed by a qualified translator or registered translation company, confirming that it is an accurate and complete translation of the original document. MFA legalization is an additional step where the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs verifies the document and adds its official stamp. Many institutions, both in Thailand and abroad, require both.
Do I need to visit the MFA in person?
No. Once you sign the Power of Attorney form, we can handle the entire submission and collection process on your behalf. You do not need to be present at the MFA at any stage.
What if my document was issued outside Thailand?
Foreign-issued documents may need to be authenticated by your home embassy in Thailand before the MFA will accept them. We will review your documents and let you know if this step is necessary, and we can assist with the embassy authentication process as well.
How much does MFA legalization cost?
Our certified translation starts from 600 THB per page for standard documents. MFA service fee is between 2500-3000 THB (not including the MFA stamp fee) for handling the submission and collection on your behalf. All costs are confirmed upfront before you commit, with no hidden fees.
Do you offer this service outside of Bangkok?
Yes. Our teams in Chiang Mai and Koh Samui can coordinate the MFA process on your behalf. Submissions are made at the MFA Bangkok office or the Chiang Mai branch depending on your location and requirements.
